Winnie Arlene Shomo

Winnie Arlene Shomo, 80 of Farmington, passed away on Saturday afternoon, July 11, 2009 at her home. She was born on March 24, 1929 at Limestone Mountain in Tucker County the last survivor of nine children born to the late Elijah Hugh and Dessie Ann Plum Snider. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband Jack L. Shomo in 1979. Following the death of her husband, she graduated from the Morgantown Beauty College and operated Winnie’s Beauty Shop on Locust Avenue in Fairmont for 13 years. Prior to that, she had been employed at Owens Illinois glass plant in Fairmont for more than 10 years. Winnie was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. She graduated from Parsons High School. She was an avid hunter, a wonderful cook and loved sewing. Family and friends will remember Winnie for her strength, kindness and the love she had for her family. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim L. and Cindy Shomo of Farmington and Rod L. and Sherri Shomo also of Farmington; five very special grandchildren, Steffi Shomo, Alisha Shomo, Jack Shomo, Shannon Batson and her husband Adam and Jessica Shomo; a great granddaughter, Savannah and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her life long friend, Toliver Miller; her sisters, Mary Ann Shaffer, Priscilla Dumire, Frances Wilson; her brothers, Bill Snider, Willard Snider, Colburn Snider, George Snider and Russell Snider. Services were held at 1pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 with Rev. Pat Cassidy officiating. Interment services followed at Woodlawn Cemetery.
