October 10, 1944 - July 31, 2018
Randy Hugh Currey, 73, of Rivesville, went to be with the Lord on July 31, 2018. He passed peacefully at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 10, 1944 in Clarksburg, the son of the late Seyward Currey and Mamie (McIntire) Currey Ingram. Randy will be remembered as a proud graduate of the 1962 class of East Fairmont High School, a member of the Class Reunion Planning Committee, and the East Side McDonald’s Coffee Club. He loved sharing stories about his adventures and antics with family and friends, especially his twin sister, Sandi. Randy loved traveling (especially to Amish Country and Myrtle Beach), fishing, bowling, his monthly dinner group with friends, sitting on the porch at home visiting with neighbors, and whipping up his famous hot dog sauce for fundraisers at his church. Randy was a lifelong Man of Christ and a devoted attendee of Rivesville United Methodist Church. He was honest, loyal, and a loving friend and Father Figure to many. He retired from Westinghouse/North American Philips after 38 years of service as a machine attendant; he was also a proud ten-year volunteer with the Marion County Rescue Squad, which he helped grow and move from the Watson Hill to Virginia Avenue Bridge location. Randy is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan Currey, of Rivesville. He is also survived by twin sister, Sandi McGibbons (who made up for her antics, teasing, and sisterly annoyances by donating him a kidney), of Florida; son, Kevin Currey, his wife Christa, and granddaughter Emily, of Morgantown; sister-in-law, Gean Sheets, of South Carolina; brother-in-law, Sam Crowder, of Virginia; former wife and friend, Sandra O’Brien, of Morgantown; lifelong friends, Wayne and Bobbi Dodd, of Fairmont, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was greeted in Heaven with open arms by brother, Harold Currey; sister, Alice Crowder; brothers who passed in infancy, Ronald and Robert Currey; stepfather, Hobert Ingram, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. The family would like to give thanks to all caregivers throughout Randy’s courageous health battles, particularly Sonnie, Hannah, Glenda, Sarah, Tiffany, Patty, among others at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, who gave Randy and his family comfort and peace to go forth on his next journey. Randy said it best when he told his son, “I have a great wife, lots of love, and lots of friends. That is all you need for a good life.” A joyous celebration of Randy’s life will take place Monday, August 6th, at 10:00 a.m., at Rivesville United Methodist Church, at the corner of 3rd and Jasper Street, Rivesville, with Reverends Stanley Merrifield and Russell Furr officiating. The family requests that everyone please share stories, photos, love, and laughter as they celebrate Randy’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rivesville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 182, Rivesville WV 26588.
