Marion Hazel Long, 86, of Fairmont, passed away on Thursday, June 04, 2020, at the Tygart Center at Fairmont Campus. She was born on September 07, 1933, in Mooers, New York, a daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel Mae (Sharrow) Goss. Marion was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was affectionately called “Guppie” by her grandchildren. She worked as a cook for Sweet Williams, as well as a server at the Palace Restaurant, the Bread Box, and the VFW. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid bowler, bowling for the Mid-City and Pleasant Valley teams. She will be remembered for her love of family, friends, and neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by first husband and father of her children, Charles Dale Gillespie, and her second husband, Howard William “Bill” Long. She was the last living member of her family and was preceded in death by siblings and their spouses: Edna and Bill Brown, Alden and Veronica Goss, Ralph “Buddy” and Carol Goss, and Lester “Buster” Goss. Marion is survived by son, Dale Gillespie and wife Vicki, of Cheat Lake; daughters, Sheri Knisely and husband Robert, of White Hall, and Gayle Thomas, of Fairmont; stepchildren: Diane Martin, Linda Kotts, Richard Long, and Fred Long; four grandchildren and their spouses: Amber Weaver, Stoney Thomas, Tiffany Gillespie, and Trevor Knisely, all of Fairmont; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Sunday, June 07, 2020, from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. In keeping with the family’s wishes, service and interment will be private.
