Kathryn Irene (Kisner) Newbrough, 98, of Fairmont, passed away on Tuesday, April 07, 2020, at Don Fitzwater’s Gracious Living Care Home in Fairmont. She was born on April 02, 1922, in Watson Community, a daughter of the late S. Monroe Kisner and Stella (Moran) Kisner. Kathryn graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1941 and later attended West Virginia Business College. She was a bookkeeper for S.M. Kisner and Sons for 45 years. Most recently, she worked as a bookkeeper for Don Fitzwater’s Gracious Living Care Home. She was a member of the Baptist Temple, Fidelis Class, Vincent-Moore Circle; she served as a Deaconess, on the Trustee Board, and as a Circle Leader. She will be remembered for her love of family, friends, traveling, sewing, and helping others. She is survived by sons, Jerry Wayne Newbrough Sr. and wife Kelsie (McDougal), of Zion, IL; and Garry Lane Newbrough and wife Dorothy, of Huntington Beach, CA; grandchildren: Beth Hilbert and husband COL Joe, U.S. Army in Germany; Jerry W. Newbrough Jr. of Madison, WI; Nathan Newbrough and Julie Landoehr, of Milwaukee, WI; and Nicole Browning (Bobby), of Huntington Beach, CA; great-grandchildren: 1Lt. Joseph E. Hilbert III, Fort Gordon, GA; Cadet Kathryn Hilbert, West Point, NY; Jack Hilbert, Farmville, VA; and Murphy Newbrough-Garde, Friesland, WI; Kathryn Browning, Huntington Beach, CA; sisters Virginia Short, Fairmont, WV; and Joyce Watkins, Honolulu, HI; sister-in-law Virginia (Bernard); as well as many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jennings B. Newbrough. The couple married on July 11, 1943, at the Old Baptist Temple. She was also preceded in death by stepmother, Belle (Keller) Kisner; sister, Dora Kisner; and brothers: Frederick Kisner (Hilda), Rex Kisner (Wanda), Max Kisner (Marie), Howard Kisner (Reva), Odbert Kisner (Ruby), John W. Kisner (Ada), James Kisner, Richard Kisner (Virginia) and Bernard. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Theresa Witt at Theresa’s Rose Garden for two years of loving care that she provided to Mom: as well as Don Fitzwater’s Gracious Living Care Home for three years of loving care that created a special bond between her and her caregiver, Dave Yoho. Amedisys Hospice Care provided valuable comfort during the last six months. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Baptist Temple Memorial Fund. A memorial service is being planned for later this year to celebrate Kathryn’s life once it is safe to host large gatherings. In consideration of the current health climate, the family is requesting that only immediate family members attend a private service at Woodlawn Cemetery, with Dr. Allan Copenhaver officiating.
