Jack Ray Rush Sr.

December 5, 1930 - June 23, 2019

Jack Ray Rush, Sr., 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born in Fairmont on December 5, 1930, a son of the late Myrtle Valentine Rush and Walter Russell Rush. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marilin Neel Rush. They were married in Forksburg on August 15, 1950. He is also survived by his son, Jack Rush, Jr. and his wife Debbie; his daughters, Beverly Rush Born and her husband David, and Vicki Rush Wallace and her husband Dawson; his grandchildren, Hannah Born Maxwell and her husband John, Meredith Born Knight and her husband Patrick, Rebecca Rush Ratliff and her husband Benjamin, and Elliott Born, Andrew Rush, Paul Wallace, Neil Wallace, and Jennalea Wallace; his great grandchildren Celia Knight, Wren Knight, and Eliana Ratliff. Also surviving is a sister, Joann Rush of Fairmont, in-laws, Lawrence Neel (Mary), Velda Musgrove (Ray), Denny Sanders, and many nieces and nephews. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He enlisted in the Air Force on December 8, 1947 and retired on July 1, 1968 with the rank of Tech Sergeant, the highest rank for a non-commissioned officer. During his military career, he was stationed at Lackland AFB and Bryan AFB in Texas, St. Mihel AFB in France, March AFB in California, Bolling AFB in Washington, D.C., Chanute AFB in Illinois, and McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His duties ranged from air police, aircraft mechanic, and flight engineer. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked additional careers in construction for the coal mines and water line installation. He was a member A.F.& A.M. Masonic Lodge and a faithful member of Winfield United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Edwin Rush, in infancy, and his brothers, Earl Rush, Sr. (Darlene), Charles Rush, Sr. (Virginia), Chester Rush in infancy, Delbert Rush (Nelda), Harold “Bucky” Rush (Trish): sister Barbara Huffman (Kenny); In laws Myrtle Moran Neel, William Victor Neel, Edward Neel (Bernice), Evelyn Murphy (Marlan), and Okareda Sanders. Friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home 209 Merchant Street on Tuesday from 1 – 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 -11 a.m. The service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Randy Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard and the U.S. Airforce at the cemetery.
