Mrs. Gladys Meredith Roach

October 29, 1913 - August 15, 2009

Gladys Meredith Roach Gladys Rosalind Meredith Roach, 95, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday morning, August 15, 2009 at Fairmont General Hospital. She was born on October 29, 1913 at Saint George in Tucker County the only child of the late Aldine Charles Auvil and Lenny Sponaugle Auvil. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard W. Meredith and her second husband, Letcher G. Roach. Mrs. Roach was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother. She had owned and operated Meredith’s Amoco and Lunch Room in Meadowdale for several years, until the death of her first husband. She later worked at Jo’s Pastries and retired from Myers Cut-rate in Fairmont. She was proud to be a descent of the Walton family of Virginia. In her later years, she enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dog, Buddy. She is survived by two sons, Robert H. Meredith and his wife Aleda of Fairmont and Donald R. Meredith and his wife Rebecca S. of Clarksburg; five very special grandchildren and their spouses, Pamela A. and Ron Martin of Montana Mines, Sharon Lee and Ronnie Burrows of Morgan Ridge, Deborah Kay and Fred Roman of Fairmont, Tammie S. and Jerry Pinson of Fairmont and Robert L. and Tracy Meredith of Fairmont; step grandchildren and spouses, Michael David and Emily Brown of Clarksburg and Jessica and Scott Hogue of Clarksburg; great grandchildren, Jacob Bucklew, Meredith Martin, Sydney Martin, Tad Michael Burrows, Polly Burrows, Crissy Burrows, Vincent Roman, Jesse Roman Tony Meredith, Logan Meredith Joshua Malott, Justin Malott; a great-great granddaughter, Leah Snyder; two great great grandsons, "A J" Hogue and Connor Hogue; several cousins including Judith Dollison of North Carolina; a special friend, George Lotz of Fairmont and a former daughter-in-law Beverly Baker Ferrell. In addition to her parents and husbands, Gladys was preceded in death by her step mother, Louie Auvil and a very close friend, Alonzo Jones. Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street on Sunday from Noon to 8pm and Monday from Noon to 2pm. The funeral service will be at 2pm on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating. Interment will follow at the Meadowdale Cemetery. Mrs. Roach’s great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Roach’s family would like to thank Dr. Eugenio Menez, the wonderful staff on 3-A at Fairmont General Hospital, Jennifer Sheets and Mark Wotring for their compassionate care and concern during her illness.
