Fred Richard Travis Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Fred Richard Travis, Sr., 80, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at his residence. He was born, October 26, 1939, in Fairmont; a son of the late Victor A. Travis and Issie (Carpenter) Travis. Fred graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1958, and later from the Pittsburgh Aeronautical Institute and Parkersburg Community College. Fred was retired from Monongahela Power Company Willow Island Power Station. He also served in the WV National Guards as an airplane mechanic. Fred belonged to Fairmont Lodge #9 AF&AM, Knight Templar, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, and the Fairmont Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star. Fred is survived by his sisters, Victoria T. Hoey, Sue Travis, Elaine T. Rogers and her husband, James and Donna Carpenter and her husband, Terry, all of Fairmont; his son, Victor John Travis of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; his granddaughter, Alexis Victoria Travis of Florida; and a close friend, Gerald Vernon. Also many nieces and nephews and their spouses, great-nieces and great-nephew, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his son, Fred Richard “Rick” Travis, who died on February 7, 2019; his brother, Johnathan Travis; his sister, Venena (Travis) Maddox and her husband Charles; brother-in-law, Walter Hoey; and his niece, Delores Jean Travis. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contribution may be made in memory of Fred R. Travis, Sr. to Shriners Hospital for Children, P. O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic all services will be private at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Thursday, May 7, 2020 with Pastor Jim Zinn, officiating. Interment will follow at Pride Cemetery, with masonic graveside rites by the Fairmont Lodge #9 AF&AM.
