Etta Mae Hughes, 82, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, January 01, 2020, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. She was born on May 07, 1937, in Catawba, a daughter of the late Lesley Darrell Keaton Sr. and Golda Ella (Chapman) Keaton. After graduating Morgantown High School, Etta went on to become a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Meadowdale, where she did many activities with fellow parishioners; she also loved travelling on bus trips, crocheting, cooking, taking pictures, but most of all, babysitting and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Etta is survived by daughters, Patricia Ann Ramage and husband Joe, of Levels Community, Fairmont, and Peggy Sue Swisher and husband Kevin, of Montana Mines; brothers: Lesley Keaton Jr. and wife Goldie, of Morgantown, Edward “Inky” Keaton, of Morgantown, and Roy Keaton and wife Debbie, of Cowen; sisters, Betty Moran, of Fairmont, and Barbara Layner, of Morgantown; grandchildren: Samantha Swisher, of Grafton, Stephanie Swisher, Zachary Swisher, and Shaena Swisher, all of Montana Mines, Joseph Michael Ramage Jr. and wife Rachel (Lynch), of Fairview, and Cody Alan Ramage Sr., of Fairmont; and great-grandchildren: Joseph Michael “Jo Jo” Ramage III, Cody Alan Ramage Jr., and Jaden Xander Ramage, In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Joe Thomas Hughes; sisters: Clara Marie Keaton Crites, Shirley McElroy, Irene Crites, Dorothy Rae Floyd, a sister at birth, Birtie Irene Keaton, and one infant sister. Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Sunday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., and on Monday, January 06, 2020, from 10 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Nathan Barker officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
