Edith Louise (Perkins) Cowger 78, of Silver Lake, formerly of Fairmont, went to be with the Lord on Friday (April 27, 2018) at her home. She was born in Fairmont on January 16, 1940, a daughter of the late Ralph E. Perkins and Mamie Marie (Twyman) Perkins. As a young girl she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her mother and father, countless trips to Lost River. At a young age she quit school to go to work with her father at Westinghouse in Fairmont. In January of 1962 she married the love of her life, Floyd Ellis Cowger, Jr. In April 1968 they were blessed with a son, Floyd Ellis Cowger III. In 1978 they moved from Fairmont to Silver Lake and spent the last 40 years running the Silver Lake Campground and Restaurant in Preston County with her family, enjoying friends and family along the way. She loved music and dancing. She and her husband would often be seen riding their Harley to shows to go dancing. Later in life they became members of the Sagebrush Roundup. One of her biggest passions was going "junkin'". She loved going out with her friends and family to see what she could find. Most of the time coming back with more glass to add to her collection. In addition to her husband, Edith is survived by her son Floyd Cowger III and his fiancée, Jennifer Benson of Bruceton Mills; three grandchildren, Floyd E. Cowger IV, Rowdy James Cowger and Allison Rose Benson. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Gladys Lenora (Hamilton) Cowger of Fairmont; her brothers and their wives, Ralph Edgar (Loretta) Perkins and Joe (Linda) Perkins all of Fairmont; her sisters and their husbands, Ruth Saltern of Bangor, Pennsylvania, Shirley (Bill) Cymbal, Midland, Michigan and Kitty (Gary) Monell of Fairmont; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Ann Austin of Rootstown, Ohio and Margaret P. Elliott and her husband Bob of Fairmont and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Floyd Cowger, Sr.; her brothers, Jimmy Perkins, Ralph Perkins, and Bobby Perkins and his wife Norma; and two sisters and their husbands, Mary Jo (John) Fargo and Jenny (Clark) Kisner; three brothers-in-law, James W. Cowger and his wife Bobbi, Charlie Austin and Bob Saltern. Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Monday 1pm to 8pm and on Tuesday 10 am to 11am. The funeral service will be at 11am on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Rex Musgrove officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
