Catherine Dorothy “Kay” (Willis) Heston, 88, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at her residence. She was born on September 14, 1931, in Port Huron, Michigan; a daughter of the late Cyrus and Mary Ann Willis. Catherine met the love of her life, William “Bud” Junior Heston, and was married, October 1, 1949, in Keego Harbor, Michigan. Here, they started a family with their first child Gloria, and decided to move back to William’s home town of Fairmont, where they continued the family with the addition of four more children. Catherine worked many years for the GC Murphy Company, and remained there through the transitions with Murphy’s Mart and Ames. Catherine loved raising and caring for her children and grandchildren. She also took pride in being creative and loved writing poetry, and contributed numerous articles for the Times West Virginia publication. She found peace in gardening, listening to country music, embroidery, knitting, and artwork. For over a decade, she kept and cared for a family of cats which brought her peace and joy. Throughout the years, she insisted on gathering the entire family, especially for Sunday dinners and Christmas. Catherine is survived by her five children, Gloria Faye Sypult and her husband, Richard of Monongah, Cheryl Virginia Butcher and her husband, Brad of Mannington, James Robert Heston of Monumental, Elaine Yvonne Fugera of Monongah, and William “Billy” Heston of Fairmont; eleven grandchildren, David Fugera, Candice (Fugera) Norris, Tammy (Heston) Lynch, Paul Heston, Jill (Heston) McQuain, Jaime (Heston) Utano, Heidi Sypult, Ricky Sypult Jr., Mariah (Butcher) Carr, Ryan Butcher and Christi (Heston) Fridley, and their spouses, along with her twenty great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren; and her brother, Michael Peter Willis of Fairmont. As Catherine passed, she ascended into the Kingdom of Heaven where she is reunited with the love of her life of 62 years, William “Bud” Junior Heston; along with her granddaughter, Jenny Sypult Shaver, of 47 years; two brothers, Joseph Patrick Willis and Daniel Louis Willis; two sisters, Margaret Mary Willis and Lucy Louella Willis. The Heston family would like to thank all caregivers, Marion County EMS and especially Fairmont police officer, Josh Riffle for his kind words. Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Tuesday from 1:00 – 8:00 pm, and on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Matt Holbert, officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
